Ohio State basketball season started with promise, ends with disappointment
By Ryan Stano
Today is the last day of the regular season in the Big Ten. The Ohio State basketball team had a chance to end the season on a high note and show that the promise that this season started with was still there. Instead, the season ended in disappointment.
The Buckeyes lost to their arch-rivals in TTUN. What’s worse is that TTUN didn’t have their best player or their head coach. The Buckeyes continued their trend of wilting in the second half after gathering a lead. It foreshadows some disappointment that seems to be coming around the corner.
It’s truly a disappointing turn of events for this team. Early in the season, they had some excellent wins. They beat Duke, Seton Hall, and Wisconsin. They even beat Illinois just last week. It looked like this team had the capability of playing elite basketball and making some real noise.
That no longer looks like the case. Chris Holtmann’s squad has not shown any capability of playing elite-level basketball when they need to. It doesn’t matter that they aren’t that healthy right now, this team should still be better at this stage of the season.
At this point, I would be truly shocked if the Ohio State basketball team didn’t lose in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. I don’t even know who their first-round matchup would be, but it doesn’t really matter. I’ve lost faith in this team to win when it matters.
I think the team might need a new voice to restore that faith. Holtmann will likely at least get one more year, but some fans are starting to voice their concerns about how his teams have performed in the month of March. Those are certainly valid concerns.
This year started with so much promise. It’s sad that it’s on track to end in disappointment yet again.
