Ohio State Women’s basketball advances to semi-finals of Big Ten Tournament
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State Women’s basketball team had some dicey moments in their first game of the Big Ten Tournament. They were taking on Michigan State in the quarterfinals. Because they were the one-seed, they got a double-bye and didn’t have to play until today.
It looked like it was going to be a blowout early in this one. The lady Buckeyes jumped out to a big lead in the first half. Their defense was the main reason why. They forced 9 Michigan State turnovers in just the first quarter alone. That defense is what helped them hold one late too, and they were able to win 74-58.
Taylor Mikesell and Jacy Sheldon were once again the stars of the show, scoring 18 and 19 points respectively. They weren’t the only ones who put up points though. The Buckeyes had four players who scored in double-figures. The balanced scoring effort is what helped them win this game, and a 10-0 run to end the game.
With this win, the Buckeyes will now take on the winner of Indiana and Maryland in the semi-finals of the Big Ten Tournament. This Ohio State women’s basketball team has a real chance to make some noise in the NCAA Tournament. They are really good.
This will be the 7th time in 9 seasons under head coach Kevin McGuff that the Buckeyes have advanced to the semi-finals of the Big Ten Tournament. Ever since he’s taken over this program, the Buckeyes have been one of the top teams in the Big Ten.
We’ll see how this team is able to finish out this tournament. They are the favorites to win it, considering they entered in as the one-seed. Hopefully, one Ohio State basketball team is able to win a Big Ten title, because the men surely can’t.
