Ohio State basketball: Updated Bracketology after Nebraska loss
By Ryan Stano
A week ago, the Ohio State basketball team had a chance to win the Big Ten title and possibly make a run all the way up to a 3-seed in the NCAA Tournament. After back-to-back terrible losses, the Buckeyes no longer find themselves in that scenario.
Losing to Maryland was bad, but losing to Nebraska is the death blow to that possibility. Where do the Buckeyes stand now with two games left? The answer will likely keep changing between now and the end of the season because who knows how this team will play the rest of the year.
Before yesterday’s loss, Ohio State was mainly seen as a 6-seed. Ohio State’s not on the bubble or anything, but they’re probably no higher than a 7-seed now. Even if they were to lose the last two games of the regular season and lose in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament they’ll still make the Tournament.
With that being said, if that scenario were to occur, the Ohio State basketball team would likely find themselves as a 9 or 10-seed. That’s not something you want to see if you’re a Buckeye fan. That would all but guarantee them another disappointing first-round exit.
Most realistically, I think the Buckeyes win their last two games and win one game in the Big Ten Tourney. That puts them at a 7-seed in my eyes. If they somehow end up making a deep run in the Big Ten Tourney, I still think the best they could do is a low four-seed.
The good news is that the Buckeyes have too many good wins to be left out of the Tournament. The bad news is, they’ve shown that they are not true contenders to make any sort of noise.
