The Ohio State football team starts the 2022 season with five straight home games. That’s an extremely unusual way to start a schedule. I can’t remember if that’s ever happened in Buckeye history. With five straight home games, a lot of teams would try to ease their way into the season.

That’s one thing the Buckeyes can’t afford to do. Two of these five home games are going to be extremely challenging. Perhaps the toughest game of the season for the Ohio State football team will be the opener on September 3rd against Notre Dame.

The good news is that the Buckeyes will have all summer to prepare for the Fighting Irish. It’s going to be a charged-up atmosphere with two former Buckeye players coaching for Notre Dame. They also are an extremely talented team and will likely be in the top ten in the polls.

Ohio State also plays Wisconsin in that five-game stretch at home. Wisconsin seems to be good every year, although last season was a bit rough for them. The Badgers always play tough no matter their skill level though, so it will still be a tough game to play.

Ryan Day will have to have his team ready to go right out of the gate. He knows he can’t afford another two-loss season as he had in 2021. He has the chance to do some of his best coaching this year, and that comes with winning the opener against a hard Notre Dame team.

A five-game homestand to start the season is nice. The Ohio State football team has to take advantage of it though and not let it just slip by.
