The Ohio State football team will take the field in less than two months for the Spring Game. We will get our first look at the 2022 team when that happens. We will get to see which players may have improved the most in the offseason and can make an impact in the regular season.

While many players will certainly improve from last year, I think one player specifically could end up being the most improved player on the team. That player is Kourt Williams. Williams will have an opportunity to earn some significant playing time this season.

Williams’ career has been marred by injury so far with the Ohio State football program. He missed his freshman year because of an injury and only played in 6 games last year as a redshirt freshman. He finished the season with 24 tackles, 4 tackles for loss, and a sack.

With Jim Knowles coming in to coordinate the defense, Williams has positional versatility that he could use. Williams could play a hybrid-type position in between linebacker and safety. He is also good enough to play either linebacker or safety straight up.

The reason why Williams could be the most improved player is because he has the chance to actually get his body right and totally healthy. He’ll be stronger physically and he should be able to participate in the full offseason program instead of being on the sidelines.

Just because he finally has an opportunity to earn playing time doesn’t mean that he will. Competition in the back seven for starting snaps will be fierce and only the best players will get the lion’s share of snaps. Williams has his work cut out for him.
