The best Ohio State Football player to ever wear #2 is…
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football program has had a lot of players come through Columbus. They are one of the most successful programs in college football history. They have had a lot of players come through that have worn the number 2, and on 2/22/22, we find out who is the best that has worn that number.
There are a number of candidates to choose from. You have Chris Carter, who was an all-time great receiver. A recent receiver, Chris Olave, has set records for the Buckeyes. You also have Marshon Lattimore, Mike Doss, Terrelle Pryor, and J.K. Dobbins.
None of those players, in my opinion, are as good as Chase Young. Anyone who has read my work for long enough knows how highly I think of Young. He’s the best player I’ve ever seen come through Columbus, and I’ve been watching Ohio State football for 20+ years.
Young was a Heisman Finalist, a unanimous All-American, a First-Team All-Big Ten selection n 2019, and a Second-Team selection in 2018. He set the school record for most sacks in a season with 16.5 in 2019, and he missed two games that season.
Quite simply put, Young was dominant in every possible way. Ohio State still hasn’t recovered from losing Young. Their pass rush hasn’t been the same since. When you have a player that commands a double-team every time the ball is snapped, you have someone special.
I know there are a lot of really good players to have worn that number in the past. Young made the Buckeyes national title contenders because of the pressure he put on offensive lines. He impacted the game like no one had before him and no one has since.
What do you think? Do you think Young is the best player to ever wear the number 2? Or is there someone else you would take?
