Ohio State basketball: TTUN might have to fire Juwan Howard
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State basketball team just beat TTUN and Juwan Howard and TTUN just over a week ago. It was a good win for the Buckeyes and it was good to beat Howard. It might be the last time that Chris Holtmann’s squad faces Howard after today’s outburst.
That outburst might end up costing Howard his job. In TTUN’s game against Wisconsin on Sunday, Howard objected to a late timeout from Wisconsin coach Greg Gard. Then he decided to throw a punch at an assistant coach after a confrontation. You can check out the skirmish below.
After that, there’s no way that Howard finishes the season coaching. At the very least, he is going to be suspended for the rest of the season. You can’t be the head coach of a program and start throwing punches at other coaches. That’s completely unacceptable behavior.
There’s an excellent chance that Howard gets relieved of his duties by Monday. The Ohio State basketball team may very well have faced Howard for the final time. Now they can keep up beating TTUN on the basketball court with whoever the new coach will be.
This reminds me of how Woody Hayes ended his career. The difference is that he hit a player, but what Howard has done is still way out of bounds. The Big Ten needs to take a strong stance on behavior like this even if TTUN decides not to. You can’t have your league’s coaches fighting like this.
We’ll have an update for you on Monday with whatever happens, but this is somewhat satisfying to see TTUN have issues with their program. It’s nice to watch that program squirm, no matter what the circumstances are.
