Jordan Fuller is a Super Bowl champion. The Los Angeles Rams safety becomes at least the 34th (by my count) former Ohio State football player to earn an NFL championship ring in the Super Bowl era. Unfortunately, Fuller was on the sideline for the matchup with the Bengals.

Fuller, in his second season with the Rams, was having an outstanding season before being injured in the fourth quarter of the team’s final regular-season game. He was placed on injured reserve and missed the playoffs. The Rams captain led the team with 113 tackles, had five pass breakups, and an interception.

The native of Old Tappan, New Jersey locked down the backend of the Ohio State defense for three seasons and was named first-team All-Big Ten as a senior in 2019. He was also a two-time team captain and an Academic All-American.

Earlier, I said Fuller is at least the 34th Buckeye to win a Super Bowl ring. I phrased it that way because it is difficult to find information on players who were on injured reserve or inactive. By my count, 29 former OSU players have played on the winning side in the game.

The last to do so was Nate Ebner for the Patriots in Super Bowl LIII. Fuller is the third consecutive Ohio State football player to be a part of a Super Bowl winner, but not see action in the game. Linebacker Darron Lee and running back Mike Weber were both on Kansas City’s roster for their win over San Francisco two years ago. Not included in that total of 34 are former Buckeye players who have won Super Bowls as assistant coaches, like Dick LeBeau (Steelers) and Fred Pagac (Broncos).

Matt Snell was the first with the Jets in Super Bowl III. Mike Vrabel and Nate Ebner have the most as players with three each, but Pepper Johnson has a total of five (two as a player with the Giants and three with the Patriots as an assistant coach). Now, Jordan Fuller is the latest Buckeye to get fitted for a Super Bowl ring. Any thoughts on who may be next?
