Ohio State basketball drops to 18th in polls
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State basketball team went 1-1 last week in the two games they played. After a gut-wrenching loss to Rutgers in the middle of the week, the Buckeyes were able to bounce back and beat TTUN yesterday with solid play throughout the game.
Despite that strong finish against TTUN, the Buckeyes still dropped a couple of spots in the polls. They dropped from 16th to 18th in this week’s rankings. They are one of five Big Ten teams that find themselves ranked in the top 25. Of those five teams, only Michigan State is ranked lower.
The rankings don’t mean anything to Chris Holtmann’s squad. Everything they want is still right in front of them. The Buckeyes still have a chance to win the Big Ten if they can win out. That’s certainly a tall task, but at least they still have a shot at the title.
One thing that will help the Ohio State basketball team in their pursuit of a Big Ten title is that 6 of their last 8 games are at home. They haven’t lost a game at home all year, so that’s something that could aid their chances down the stretch against some tough teams.
As long as E.J. Liddell continues to play at a high level and they can get some shooting from the outside, the Buckeyes are going to have a chance to win the league. Their schedule isn’t easy, but they’ve had tougher stretches of the season as well. Ohio State has a real shot.
Their march towards that goal starts tomorrow against Minnesota. They have already beaten the Golden Gophers once this year, so they should have a blueprint on how to do it again at home.
