The Ohio State basketball team is still reeling from their gut-wrenching loss to Rutgers after they blew an 8-point lead late in that game. That was their first real bad loss of the season though. In terms of seeding, what are some of the scenarios we could see?

We’ll start with the best-case scenario. I think the ceiling for this team is a run to the Big Ten Tournament semi-finals. In the regular season, optimism has them only losing two more games. Adding all of that up together would probably have the Buckeyes around a four-seed in the Tournament.

The worst-case scenario seems a little bit more realistic for this team. That has them losing four more games this regular season, which puts them in a worse matchup for the Big Ten Tournament. If that happens, I could see them getting bounced in the first round there.

If that were to happen, the Buckeyes would likely see an 8-seed. I don’t think they’re in danger of missing the Tournament completely considering some of their quality wins. But that type of seeding would almost certainly mean another early-round exit.

More than likely, this team falls somewhere in the middle of that. I tend to think they will get a five-seed. That still would leave them with a tricky 5/12 matchup. Tomorrow’s game against Michigan will tell us more about the mental toughness of this team moving forward.

That mental toughness is what’s going to determine what kind of seed this team gets and how they can use that in the NCAA Tournament. Chris Holtmann knows he has to start making moves in the postseason. anything worse than a 6-seed makes that incredibly tough to happen.

Maybe this Ohio State basketball team will surprise me and actually put together a winning streak to end the year like they did last season. I certainly hope that’s the case, but the evidence says otherwise.
