Quite frankly, it’s not a surprise to me. Seth Towns hasn’t played a single game all season for the Ohio State basketball team. A back injury is what had kept him out this time. To be honest, injuries have followed Towns his entire college basketball journey.

Now his 2021-22 season is officially over before it even begins. Chris Holtmann said today during his press conference that Towns is out for the rest of the year with that injury. As I mentioned, this isn’t that big of a surprise to me as I was always dubious of him making a return at some point this season.

Towns is just someone you can’t count on to be on the floor for this team until you see it happen. To be honest, I’m not sure we ever will see him on the floor again. He’s had two major knee injuries and now a major back injury. How is he going to get himself on the court, let alone be effective when he’s out there?

Towns does, somehow, have eligibility left for next season. He could return for a seventh year of school and try to help the Ohio State basketball team in 2022-23. Personally, I don’t see that happening. The kid is just so snakebit I could see him hanging it up and calling it a career.

As far as how this injury affects the current team, I don’t think it does. I know Holtmann was expecting him to be back at some point, but I’m not sure the other players were. Everyone has grown into their defined roles this season and the team is playing pretty well.

We’ll see if Justice Sueing is actually able to return at some point this season or if his year gets put on ice as well. That would be a much bigger loss to this team because of his defensive versatility.
