Ohio State football unveils new football turf design
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football program is getting new turf for the first time since they put it in. It was badly needed, and everyone could see that last season. Multiple players had footing issues all season long on turf that was originally supposed to last longer than it did.
Those issues shouldn’t happen anymore now that the Buckeyes have new turf being put in before the season starts. There will also be a new design for the playing surface, and that was revealed today by the Ohio State football program’s Twitter account.
As you can see, it’s a fairly basic design that is extremely similar to what the turf was before. Personally, I was hoping for something a little different. I think having the endzone painted with script Ohio would be really cool. Clearly, that’s not something they wanted.
It’s a pretty boring design, but it could be worse. I loved the old grass field but I know they’ll never go back to that again. Turf is now used as a recruiting tool, so grass will never again be an option at Ohio State. It’s a bummer honestly.
We’ll get our first look at the new playing field in the middle of April when the Buckeyes host their Spring game. That will be the first time the players get to play on that surface as well. It should have much better footing than the one they had to deal with before.
Maybe next time they need to replace the turf we’ll get a bit of a cooler design.
