Ohio State basketball: Postponements will hurt Buckeyes in March
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State basketball team has had a lot of postponements and cancelations this season. Most of those have been due to COVID issues throughout the season. The one this past weekend, when they were supposed to play Iowa, was because of the winter storm.
All of these games that haven’t been made up will hurt the Buckeyes when it comes to March. That’s because they won’t have as many games to accumulate good, quality wins. That will ultimately hurt their seeding in the NCAA Tournament once March rolls around.
This is an Ohio State basketball team that is still trying to get over the scars of being a 2-seed that lost to a 15-seed just last season. A better seed clearly doesn’t automatically mean that a team is going to win in the first round. Ohio State has hope that stays the case.
All of the changes in the schedule also mean that Ohio State is going to have fewer rest days between games in the month of February. Next month, the Buckeyes will play three games in the span of six days. That’s a lot of basketball in a little amount of time.
How they manage those games and the practice in between the games may determine how much Justice Sueing plays, if at all, this season. They need to have time to integrate him back into the fold. If they are too worried about the next opponent coming up in just a couple of days, how is that going to work?
It’s something that the Ohio State basketball team can’t control, but it’s still highly frustrating. They will just have to weather the storm the best they can and hope they come out of it relatively unscathed. They also have to hope they won’t be too tired once tournament time rolls around.
We’ll see how these reshuffled games go in the next few days and months. The Buckeyes need to finally get themselves a few wins in the tournament.
