Ohio State Football: 2022 class might add one more stud
By Ryan Stano
After National Signing Day was finished yesterday, the Ohio State football team thought that they were done filling their 2022 class. They didn’t add anyone that they didn’t expect to, and finished with 21 total recruits. They now have a chance to make that final number 22.
That’s because a five-star defensive lineman from the class of 2023, Leebeus Overton, is reclassifying to 2022. He has a final five that consists of Texas A&M, Oregon, Oklahoma, Georgia, and Ohio State. He will now make a decision soon on where he will end up going.
The Buckeyes have a chance to add a truly dynamic player to this already solid class. Overton excels at stopping the run, which is something Ohio State clearly had issues with against TTUN. He also has the speed to take down ball-carriers from behind with his relentless pursuit.
Overton has had a lot of snaps both inside at tackle and outside at end. He also has been playing varsity football since he was in 8th grade so he has plenty of experience. Deciding to forego his senior season was not a decision that he and his family took lightly.
Right now, people seem to think that A&M has the upper hand. That doesn’t mean that Ohio State can’t be a surprise team to swoop in. Overton talked about his strong relationship with Larry Johnson as a big reason why the Buckeyes are in his final five.
There’s no word on when Overton could possibly make his final decision. He might want to take an official visit to each school before deciding. But adding him would be huge for the Ohio State football program. Adding him to a team with J.T. Tuimoloau, Jack Sawyer, and others would be lethal.
Ryan Day would be ecstatic to get a player of Overton’s caliber earlier than expected. Time will tell if that’s something he and his staff can pull off.
