The transfer portal has been good for the Ohio State football program. It has been useful for other teams around the country too, including in the Big Ten. It looks like the Buckeyes might have some tougher competition next year because of one particular player in the transfer portal.

It seems as though Wisconsin is becoming a truly viable candidate to land the number one quarterback in the transfer portal. That player is former five-star quarterback Caleb Williams, who decided to leave Oklahoma once Lincoln Riley bolted for USC.

USC is still certainly a possibility for Williams. But according to Gerry Hamilton of On3, the Badgers are also a serious contender for Williams’ services. That would add a really good quarterback to a conference that already has C.J. Stroud and former five-star recruit J.J. McCarthy as QBs that currently play.

Williams would make Wisconsin a serious threat in the Big Ten conference. Everyone who had a real chance to win the conference last year was in the Big Ten East, so adding a formidable foe in the West would make things very interesting in 2022.

Speaking of 2022, the Ohio State football team plays Wisconsin on September 24th in the fourth game of the season. It’s the first time the Buckeyes have faced the Badgers in the regular season since 2019 when the Buckeyes beat them in Shoe 38-7.

Adding Williams to that roster would make things very difficult for Ohio State on the defensive side of the ball. They already have some issues that need to be fixed, as we all know. Williams, while erratic at times this past season, can still end up being a really good player.
