We all know that the Ohio State football team had a disappointing 2021 season. It didn’t end with the Buckeyes getting a chance to play in the College Football Playoff. It was the worst season that Ryan Day has had as the head coach of the Buckeyes so far.

Even so, we still need to stop and smell the roses a little bit. Day has still been a mostly fantastic coach since he took over in 2019. He has made two CFPs, played for a national championship, and won two Big Ten championships. Those are a lot of accolades on his resume.

I, along with others, have been critical of Day at times this past season. But I also recognize all of the good things that he has done in his three years. His recruiting classes have been top-notch too, so he continues to bring in a lot of really good players every year.

Buckeye fans are some of the most critical fans in all of college football. I certainly include myself in that category as well. Ohio State football fans demand excellence from their team. It’s part of the reason why the program has been able to maintain such a high level of success.

But Buckeye fans also need to recognize that they are spoiled with what they’ve been able to see. We all need to stop and smell the roses every once and a while. Even though the Buckeyes didn’t have the full amount of success they are used to in 2021, it’s important to acknowledge the success they’ve had too.

Day will undoubtedly be looking to improve in 2022 and get his team back to where the fans expect them to be. I just hope fans realize how good they have it with this program sometimes.
