The Ohio State football program might finally be done with some of the changes to their coaching staff. Unfortunately, some of those changes might not make some recruits who the Buckeyes are pursuing particularly happy, including a five-star in the class of 2023.

AJ Harris was already annoyed with new defensive coordinator Jim Knowles for not reaching out to him in the first 21 days since he had taken the job at Ohio State. Harris is a five-star cornerback from Alabama and is listed as the third-best cornerback in the entire country.

Harris had a really close relationship with Kerry Coombs. Now that Coombs is off to Cincinnati, it seems as though Harris is giving the Bearcats a closer look.

Harris is a top target for the Buckeyes and they are a finalist for him still. Even so, they seem to have fallen down on his list. Harris is a really good player and he should still be a top priority. For whatever reason, he doesn’t seem to be a priority for Knowles.

The Buckeyes need all the help they can get on the defensive side of the ball. Adding a five-star corner with the talent of Harris would be a huge boost to the secondary. Unfortunately, it seems like the Buckeyes might miss out on him, even if he doesn’t decide to go to Cincinnati.

Ohio State will still have plenty of time to mend fences. 2023 is still a long time ago. Knowles will have time to fix his mistakes. Also, this is just one recruit. There are still plenty of other recruits the Buckeyes can land to help the secondary get better.

Of course, we will monitor Harris’ decisions in the future and let you know if the Ohio State football program factors into any of them.
