Ohio State Football: How C.J. Stroud can be even better next year
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team has a really good offense coming back next season. They bring back some really good receivers who did well in the Rose Bowl and they bring back TreVeyon Henderson at running back. They also have C.J. Stroud returning.
Stroud was really good this past season after a bit of a rough start. The Buckeyes needed him to carry the offense at times this season and he did a really good job of that. He played so well that he was named a finalist for the Heisman Trophy, although he didn’t win.
Stroud has an excellent chance to win next year if he gets even better. There was one big thing that was missing in his game; running the ball. It seemed like he was almost afraid to take off and run when he had space in front of him to do so. There was no threat of read-option at all either.
He did have some interesting comments when it comes to that. Stroud said that it wasn’t his job to run the ball and that’s not what was going to get him paid. He’s not completely wrong about that, but for this offense to be at its most effective, Stroud has to be somewhat of a threat running it.
This is the thing that he can do to improve his game the most next season. Stroud doesn’t have to be Justin Fields or anything, but he has to not be a complete stiff back there. In order to be the best version of himself, he has to step out of his comfort zone.
The Ohio State football team already had the best offense in the country statistically this season. They can be even better if Stroud decides to take the next step in his development as a quarterback.
