Ohio State basketball: January slide becoming ugly trend
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State basketball team just lost to Wisconsin on Thursday. It’s the second game in the month of January that they have lost this year. It has become an ugly trend for Chris Holtmann to lose a bunch of games in the month of January, as it has happened every year under him.
Holtmann has to find a way to stop these midseason slides. The Buckeyes were playing some really great basketball before they had to stop due to COVID, but they seem to have their legs now. They should be playing better than what they did on Thursday night.
I understand that the month of January is hard every year because that’s when Big Ten play starts. The Big Ten is a tough conference to play in every single year. Teams are going to be hard to beat in this conference, no matter who they are. That doesn’t mean the Buckeyes should be losing these games.
Ohio State needs to figure out how to play better this month. January and March have been terrible months for the Buckeyes under Holtmann. The main thing he needs to fix ar the unforced turnovers. This team throws some really bad passes sometimes.
Justin Ahrens needs to start hitting his open threes. Otherwise, he’s going to be sitting on the bench. The only reason he’s on the court is to hit threes. If he can’t do that, he’s not much good out there. They’d be better giving those minutes to Eugene Brown or Jimmy Sotos.
We’ll see how the Ohio State basketball team fixes their issues tomorrow against Penn State. The Buckeyes already beat the Nittany Lions in State College. It’s good Ohio State gets this one at home. They have to win this game.
