The Ohio State football team finished 6th in the final polls for the 2021 season. It was a roller coaster of a season that saw them lose two games in the regular season for the first time since 2018. They lost to TTUN for the first time since 2011. A lot of firsts happened this season.

Now the page is turned and we get to look ahead to next season. The Spring Game will be played in just a few months, so it’s never too early to look ahead at what the 2022 season can bring. A lot of fans are excited for next season and the potential that this team has.

There are things that need to be improved in order for that potential to be realized though. The Buckeyes were not a perfect team this season. They had plenty of things go wrong when they were playing some of the best teams on their schedule. The schedule is arguably harder next year.

There are three main things that I’ve identified that the Buckeyes need to improve on if they want to be national title contenders next season. These are things that they failed to do in the biggest moments of this past season and it cost them a chance at the College Football Playoff.

If they are able to improve on these three things, then the floor for the 2022 team is the CFP. But if they keep letting these things plague them next year, this could be another year where they are sitting at home while four other teams play for a chance at a national title.

The first thing they must improve has to deal with the offensive line.
