Ohio State basketball adds home game against IUPUI
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State basketball team had lost some opportunities to play games when they had to pause due to COVID issues within the program. In doing so, they lost some good chances to boost their resume and keep sharp right before Big Ten play started.
Because of that layoff, the Buckeyes were extremely rusty in their first two games back. They didn’t play for almost three weeks because of that pause. Now, the Buckeyes are trying to get themselves back in shape for the rest of the Big Ten schedule.
The Buckeyes decided the best way to do that is to add a home game next week. The Buckeyes will take on IUPUI on January 18th now, sliding in between Big Ten games. This will make up for one of the two home games that the Buckeyes weren’t able to play during their pause.
Ohio State now gets a chance to play an additional time in front of their home crowd. The Buckeyes should win this game, but it gives them a chance to add one more total game to the number of games they get to play. That might help their resume in the long run.
Chris Holtmann was asked about the possibility of adding any more games this season on his radio show today. He said that it was highly unlikely. The only chance they had of doing that is if one of their opponents had to cancel a Big Ten game and they could find a Power 5 school to take that date.
In any case, the Ohio State basketball team will get another chance to play at the Schott, and that’s a good thing. It will be good for the fans too because they get to see their team play an additional time. It will give the players a nice break as well. They won’t have to grind as much in a non-Big Ten game.
