Ohio State Football: Hartline’s promotion only will help offense
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team had one of the best offenses in the country in 2021. In fact, the Buckeyes led the country in yards per game, averaging 561 yards. They also led the country in points scored per game, scoring a whopping 45.7 points per contest.
With all of those great numbers they put up, it would be hard to improve the offense next season. That’s still what they did today by promoting Brian Hartline. Hartline is now the passing game coordinator for the Buckeyes. He will still coach the wide receivers though.
Having Hartline expand his role is good for this offense. He has done an unbelievable job as wide receivers coach, both on the field and recruiting-wise. Anything he touches seems to turn to gold. Keeping him happy in Columbus should be a top priority for Ryan Day.
Hartline’s promotion will certainly do just that. Having him still connected to the wide receiver room is also a great move. The Buckeyes have the most talented receiver corp in the country and that’s even with losing two receivers that will be first-round picks in April.
The Buckeyes have shown that they are not satisfied with how the 2021 season went. They are trying to shake things up with coaches to improve their record in 2022 and beyond. Day knows that losing two games in any season isn’t acceptable, especially when one of those losses is to TTUN.
Hartline’s role will continue to expand as long as he stays in Columbus. He deserves every accolade that he gets and then some. Hopefully, he will be with the Ohio State football program for a very long time because he is a valuable asset to this program.
Now we just have to see how the rest of the coaching staff continues to shake out.
