The Ohio State football program is looking for a new offensive line coach after parting ways with Greg Studrawa yesterday. They will be looking for someone who can help improve the run game and be more physical at the line of scrimmage against bigger opponents.

The lack of physicality was evident up front in both of the Buckeyes’ losses this season. Both Oregon and TTUN handled the offensive line easily at the point of attack. Losing the battle at the line of scrimmage is something that is unacceptable to Ryan Day, so he made a change.

So who could take coach Stud’s spot? One name that has been thrown around recently is Justin Frye. Frye is currently the offensive line coach at UCLA. He is also the Bruins’ offensive coordinator. So why would an offensive coordinator go back to just being an offensive line coach at another school?

Ohio State could lure him in with more money and a co-offensive coordinator title. He could coordinate the offensive with Kevin Wilson, although neither one of them have as much to do with the offense than Day does. That would be the only way I could see it happening.

If the Buckeyes were able to get Frye out to Columbus, that would be nice. His record as a recruiter isn’t stellar, but this would be the first time he’d have the kind of resources available that could make him an elite recruiter. I think it would be a pretty good hire.

Of course, a lot of things can happen to keep him at UCLA, including them giving him a raise. Right now though, he seems to be the top choice of Day to be the new offensive line coach for the Ohio State football team.
