Ohio State Football: Jack Miller to Florida is surprising
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team has had three quarterbacks transfer from the program since the end of the regular season. They had Quinn Ewers, the highest-rated recruit in program history, head to Texas. Walk-on Jagger LaRoe decided to enter the transfer portal as well.
We knew Jack Miller was also transferring, but we weren’t sure where until today. We now know that Miller is headed to the SEC to play for the Florida Gators. I have to say, this is a bit surprising for me considering Miller was the fourth-best quarterback Ohio State had.
I figured Miller would go to a smaller program, perhaps closer to home. Miller is originally from Arizona, so it would make sense for him to go out West. Instead, he chose the SEC. I’m a little surprised Florida wanted him, but they also did just lose a quarterback to the portal as well.
Miller is still a pretty talented player. Despite clearly being third on the depth chart all year and being the fourth-most talented quarterback on Ohio State’s roster, he’s still more talented than a lot of quarterbacks out there. He also competes hard every single day.
I wish Miller nothing but success in his next endeavor. Florida doesn’t have a clear starter at that position, so I would expect Miller to compete for the starting job for the second straight season. I’m not sure that he’ll win the job, but he will get a chance to earn it.
The Ohio State football team isn’t short on quarterbacks, but the room certainly has less depth in it than it did for most of 2021. C.J. Stroud will keep them as a top team in 2022 and possibly 2023. Any time after that is an unknown at this point.
I hope Miller finds happiness in Gainesville!
