The Ohio State football team won’t be playing in the College Football Playoff. There will be no chance to play for a national championship. That opportunity sailed away once the Buckeyes lost to TTUN in the final game of the regular season. They got left out.

Now, they will play in the Rose Bowl. For most other programs, an opportunity to play in the Grand Daddy of Them All would be a great opportunity. For the Buckeyes, it now becomes a test of how motivated the team will be to play in a bowl game like this that doesn’t have championship implications.

That’s the reason why Ohio State needs to win this game so badly. They need to be able to show that they can win a game that won’t put them into a national title chase. They need to show that they want to win a game just to win a game and leave the bad taste from that TTUN loss behind.

It’s certainly not going to be easy. Utah is a very good program and is the Pac-12 champion. They arent’ some pushover team that is going to roll over just because they are facing Ohio State. This team is tough and is ready to prove its worth to the nation.

The Ohio State football players have said that motivation remains high for this one. No one has said they are sitting out yet. With just two and a half weeks before the game, I doubt anyone would decide to sit out now. It looks like it will be full steam ahead.

This game will give us a good test of how mentally strong this team is headed into 2022. It’s going to be a litmus test on resiliency within the program. I can’t wait to see what the results are.
