Ohio State basketball tried to reschedule game with Kentucky

The Ohio State basketball team has had to cancel two games in a row due to COVID within their program. Despite being a fully vaccinated team, it still went through the roster and forced them to cancel their big game with Kentucky this past weekend.
Chris Holtmann said on his radio show yesterday that he and Coach Calipari tried everything they could to reschedule the game for another time. Holtmann said that Calipari even asked Holtmann if they wanted to play this Wednesday since Kentucky’s game with Louisville was canceled.
Unfortunately, the Ohio State basketball team wasn’t going to have enough players to make that work. Based on the COVID protocols, they weren’t going to have enough guys to field a team. Holtmann alluded that you need to have at least 8 players, and it didn’t sound like they had that right now.
It’s unfortunate that the Buckeyes don’t get an opportunity for a great resume-building win against Kentucky. Even if they would have lost that game it would have been a great experience for this team. Instead, they have to wait even longer to play a game.
Holtmann did say that they seemed ready to play their next game against New Orleans next Tuesday. That will mark about a two-week gap between games for this team. Holtmann is going to have to find a way to make sure that his guys aren’t rusty for that one.
Ohio State is still one of the best teams in the country when they are at or near full strength. We just have to see them actually play another game before we can determine how rusty they are with all of this time off that wasn’t planned.
Hopefully, this is the last cancelation that the Buckeyes have to deal with this season.
