Ohio State Football: Grading the 2022 recruiting class
By Ryan Stano
With Gabe Powers signing on Friday evening, the Ohio State football team’s recruiting class is mostly filled for the 2022 season. They still have a couple of prospects they are trying to land in February. Even so, this class is filled enough to analyze it.
Even without getting Terrance Brooks like they originally planned, the Buckeyes still ended up with a pretty good class. They ended up with the fourth-best class in the country, which is what they were headed into the early signing period. They never really had a chance to jump anyone.
This time last year, the 2022 class was ranked number one in the country. It dropped so far partially because of the fact that Quinn Ewers reclassified to the 2021 class. Of course, Ewers is no longer with the Ohio State football program and is now at Texas.
So how good is this class as a whole? I’d say it can be an impactful class, but it’s not the best one under Ryan Day. This class only will be judged by the number of playmakers in it. To be honest, I only see a handful of them in this class, and only one might impact the team right away.
Ohio State football 2022 recruiting class grade: B+
To me, this class is above average. Sonny Styles is the best prospect in this class in my mind. He will have a chance to come in right away and impact the team at safety. Other than that, most of these guys will have to wait to make an impact.
Caden Curry has a chance to be pretty good down the road. I do love the combination at linebacker of C.J. Hicks and Gabe Powers. The offensive prospects don’t get me too excited though. Caleb Burton is the only one that I can’t wait to see from this class.
This class should definitely keep Ohio State as an elite program, but I was hoping it would be stronger. I can acknowledge I might be nit-picking though because it’s still a top-five class in the country.
