It was going so well so far this season! The Ohio State basketball program hadn’t had any cases of COVID or any games canceled so far. Unfortunately, that has now changed as this Saturday’s big-time matchup against Kentucky has been canceled due to COVID.

The game was canceled due to cases of COVID within the Ohio State basketball program. It is unclear how many cases there are or who the players are that have COVID. It’s also unclear if this will be the only game that is canceled due to whatever outbreak there is.

Chris Holtmann did say before the season that his entire team is vaccinated, so they should be mostly okay. It’s just a shame that such a big game is canceled after the Buckeyes have been playing so well. They were the higher-ranked team in this matchup too.

Obviously, the first focus is the health of the players and the staff. I’m sure we’ll eventually learn who contracted COVID and how many of them there are that did. Once they get healthy again, they can get back to playing some great basketball like they have so far this year.

With the Kentucky game canceled, that leaves the Buckeyes without a chance to get a marquee neutral-site victory over a really good opponent. They still have a great win over Duke to help their resume, but a win over this Kentucky squad would have been great too.

With this game canceled, that leaves Ohio State’s next game as Tuesday’s game against UT-Martin. We will see if that game ends up getting played or not, but it’s the next one on the schedule. We will certainly keep you up to date if anything else comes out.
