Ohio State Football: 3 more prospects who could sign on Signing Day
By Ryan Stano
Zion Branch is the next prospect on this list. He is on a little bit shakier ground when it comes to signing with Ohio State. Branch is a four-star safety from the state of Nevada. In fact, he is the best prospect from the state of Nevada in this recruiting class.
Branch is a safety that plays very aggressively. He likes to go up and hit running backs at the line of scrimmage, as well as act like a center fielder in the passing game. He’s someone who can make plays because of his ball skills. He is a safety that can cover very well.
There are a few reasons why the Buckeyes might not be able to sign Branch tomorrow. One of those reasons is the reclassification of Sonny Styles. Styles is now the best safety in this class. Having him join the Buckeyes might make Branch want to head elsewhere for playing time.
Another issue for Ohio State is that they aren’t the favorites to land Branch, and weren’t even before Styles made that decision. Branch is favored to sign with USC. That decision was likely bolstered after the Trojans hired Lincoln Riley as their new head coach.
If the Buckeyes do somehow land Branch, it would be an excellent addition to a secondary that lacks playmakers. They only have Denzel Burke as someone who can really make strong plays. Adding both Styles and Branch in the same class would certainly help that.
