Ohio State Football has two First-Team All-Americans in 2021
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team had a really good season. Despite the fact that they lost two games and missed out on playing for a national championship, they still were a really good team. There are players who certainly deserve to be recognized for their play.
Ohio State ended up with two First-Team All-Americans according to the FWAA. One of those is from the excellent receiving corps. That player is Garrett Wilson. Wilson had a great season and was clearly one of the best receivers in the country.
Wilson had 70 catches for 1,058 yards and 12 touchdowns. He also had a rushing touchdown. Everyone knew how good he was after he had four touchdowns against Purdue, including one rushing. Although he hasn’t announced his intentions yet, he’s almost certainly going to the NFL.
The other First-Team All-American was Nicholas Petit-Frere. While the offensive line struggled at times, Petit-Frere was pretty solid all year long. He was able to do really strong things at the left tackle position and was able to keep C.J. Stroud upright most of the year.
I was a bit surprised to only see two Buckeyes make the list. For how good they played most of the season, it seemed like they deserved more. Perhaps the sour taste of that last game against TTUN affected the opinions of some people. That’s understandable.
Both Wilson and Petit-Frere would be first-round picks if they decided to enter the draft after the season. It would make sense for both players to declare right after the Rose Bowl. They deserve to go to the NFL and make their money. Both are great players.
Hopefully, the Ohio State football team can have more All-Americans on this list next season.
