The Ohio State basketball season has been very up-and-down so far this season. They have played to the level of competition of every team they’ve played so far. Both losses they have were by one possession and they should have won both contests against lesser opponents.

They also struggled in a couple of wins as well against Niagra and Towson, two teams that never should be close against them. Same goes for their buzzer-beater to win against Akron. Then we saw the Buckeyes take down undefeated, top-ranked Duke.

All of that suggests a roller-coaster season is in store for the Ohio State basketball team this year. The question is how far can they go? How dangerous can they be in a pretty darn good Big Ten Conference? We’re going to find out very soon.

The Buckeyes take on Wisconsin tomorrow in the second of their Big Ten games this season. After that, they take on Kentucky. Both of those foes are ranked. Both of those games will be tough. After we see the results in those games, we might be able to figure out how good this Ohio State team is.

Of course, nothing will be solved until March. Ohio State has faltered in that month under Chris Holtmann, especially last season in embarrassing fashion. Nothing matters until this team proves it can do something in the tournament. But improving their seed would help.

Beating both Wisconsin and Kentucky would go a long way to doing just that. It will be up to E.J. Liddell and company to raise the bar against both opponents. Two wins might just mean this team is different than the ones we’ve seen over the past few seasons.

Things are about to get real for this team. How they respond is critical to the success they have the rest of the way.
