Manny Diaz wouldn’t have been on this list just a few days ago. He was too busy being the head coach of the Miami Hurricanes. As of today though, he is officially looking for a new job. While Diaz may not have been a great head coach, his defensive coordinating abilities are unquestioned.

Diaz has a track record of making defenses better everywhere he’s been. He was really good at Mississppi State, Texas, Lousiana Tech, and Miami. He had top-15 defenses at all of the Power 5 schools he coordinated. At Lousiana Tech, his defense led the nation in turnovers forced.

Diaz not only has shown a track-record of being a good on the field defensive coordinator, but his recruiting has been really strong too. The Buckeyes need someone who can do both. Diaz would be one of the biggest names available too.

Someone like Diaz would be a wonderful fit in Columbus also. He has been in big college towns and with big-time programs that have fans that care a lot about their college football team. He would be well-versed in dealing with some of the more eccentric Buckeye fans.

Ryan Day would land instant credibility with someone like Diaz on his staff. The recruiting wouldn’t slow down and the players would be developed on the field also. This would be a home-run hire for Day if he were able to get it done.

The final candidate on this list is someone that should be very familiar to Ohio State football fans.
