Ohio State Football: 3 top candidates to be new defensive coordinator
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team has to make some changes before next season starts. One of the biggest changes is hiring a new defensive coordinator. While Ryan Day has not officially fired anyone from the staff yet, changes are surely coming.
If Day wants this team to be better, something has to change on defense. The defense was the reason why they lost two games this season and why they didn’t have a chance to compete for a Big Ten championship or a national championship. The defense was bad in big spots.
The best way to improve the defense is to get a coach who can adjust on the fly. The biggest problem with both Kerry Coombs and Matt Barnes is that they couldn’t adjust during the game. Barnes had a better scheme, but he couldn’t adjust to TTUN’s run game and it cost them a win.
With all of that being said, a new coordinator needs to be brought into the Ohio State football program. There are three candidates that I would love to see brought in. These are different ones than I said could take over for Coombs after the Oregon game as well.
All three of these guys have proven that they can do what needs to be done on the defensive side of the ball. They are good at what they do and they would fit in great at a place like Ohio State. If any of these guys joined the staff, they would instantly improve this team.
The first candidate for the job just had a really good year at another OSU.
