I mentioned last week that the Ohio State football team missed an opportunity not trying to hire Marcus Freeman as their defensive coordinator. He’s a former player and was a GA at Ohio State as well. He’s a name rising fast and it would have made sense.

Turns out, maybe it’s a move that was never going to happen. Based on what Freeman said recently, it doesn’t seem that he liked Ohio State all that much. In fact, he said that coming to play for the Buckeyes was a mistake when he did it.

In a column he wrote for the Players Tribune, Freeman said coming back to Ohio State would have been a mistake.

"I visited this university for the first time when I was about 16 or 17 years old and was recruited to play here. I had a choice to make, and in the end what it came down to was Ohio State or Notre Dame. And I chose Ohio State. I loved Tyrone Willingham. I thought he was a great coach, and to be honest, he reminded me a bit of my father.Fast-forward to last year, and you might have heard that I was being considered for a couple of coaching jobs. During that time, me and my wife, Joanna, took a trip down to Louisiana and then up here to South Bend — and when we got back home, it was another tough decision. I can’t tell you exactly what it was that told us to come to Notre Dame, but there was something. We all know there’s something different about Notre Dame. We all know it’s something special. And I just thank God that I didn’t make the wrong decision twice."

Freeman essentially says that it was a mistake to have chosen to play for Ohio State over Notre Dame and it would have been a mistake again to choose them over Notre Dame again, hence why he is now the head coach of the Fighting Irish instead of with the Ohio State football program.

I’m not sure what reasons Freeman has for taking shots at Ohio State like that. I’m not sure why he thinks it was a mistake to play here. He clearly didn’t think it was a mistake to take a GA job under Jim Tressel, so it must not have been all bad there for him.

I’m sure these comments will sour how Buckeye fans feel about him. They do for me a little too. I always thought he was one of the most underrated players to play for the Buckeyes. Now, they will be battling him for recruits and will face him in the first game of next season.

Now I really hope the Buckeyes smash them in the Shoe in early September of 2022!
