The Ohio State basketball team finally played up to their capability on Monday night against Bowling Green. The Buckeyes had struggled in their first two games of the season against Akron and Niagra. No such struggles were had against the Eagles.

Ohio State won 89-58. It was a game that was never close. The Buckeyes had a 20-4 lead at one point and had the upper hand all game long. E.J. Liddell once again led the way in scoring with 13, but this was a much more balanced Buckeye attack offensively.

Meechie Johnson Jr. also added 13 off the bench. In fact, five different Buckeyes scored in double-digits in this one. Zed Key had 12, Justin Ahrens had 11, and Eugene Brown had 12 off the bench to go along with Liddell and Johnson’s efforts.

Ohio State shot the ball well, shooting 51% from the field. They ended up hitting a total of 12 three-pointers as well. Part of the reason that they shot so well is that they moved the ball really well all game long. The Buckeyes had 27 assists on 36 made field goals.

Pretty much everything went right in this game for Ohio State. This was the sort of effort that we expected to see out of them against Akron and Niagra. It’s good to see Chris Holtmann get his team to make adjustments and play better. The level of competition is about to step up.

The Buckeyes will take on Xavier Thursday night in Cincinnati. It won’t be an easy game for the Buckeyes as the Musketeers have looked good early. The Buckeyes will also welcome Duke to Columbus in just a couple of weeks as well, so they need to be sharp.

Next. OSU vs. MSU has a lot of implications. dark

I was very impressed with the Ohio State basketball team tonight. I hope this is a sign of things to come early in this college basketball season.
