The Ohio State basketball team wrapped up signing day yesterday with their 2022 class. It’s a bigger class than usual, with five guys coming into the fold. It is the seventh-best class in the country and the second-best class in the Big Ten.

The class is headlined by four-star guard out of Georgia Bruce Thornton. Thornton is the best player out of the state of Georgia. He is a point guard that has good scoring skills but can also develop into a good playmaker. The Buckeyes need someone like that desperately. Their point guard situation right now isn’t good.

Perhaps the player I am most excited about though is Felix Okpara, a four-star center from Missouri. Okpara stands at 6’11 and 210 pounds. He is the true big man in the middle that the Buckeyes have been missing since Chris Holtmann took over as head coach.

Okpara is the fourth-best player in the state of Missouri. He gives the Buckeyes a good defensive presence in the middle of the lane as well as a skilled scorer in the post. I’m very interested to watch him play next to Zed Key once Kyle Young and E.J. Liddell leave next year.

Ohio State also grabbed the second-best player out of the state of Utah in Roddy Gayle Jr. Gayle Jr. is a shooting guard that has some range. He’s a four-star prospect, but he will actually be coming into a crowded room at the two-guard position.

Not only is it crowded because of who is already there this year, but the Buckeyes also added three-star shooting guard Bowen Hardman out of Cincinnati as well. Hardman shoots it a little better from outside than Gayle Jr. but doesn’t have the athleticism that Gayle Jr. has.

The final member of the Ohio State basketball program’s 2022 class is small forward Brice Sensabaugh out of Florida. Sensabaugh is a four-star prospect that is pretty good on both offense and defense. He’s someone who has a chance to play right away next season.

There you have it. These are the five guys that Hotmann will be replacing a lot of his guys that leave this year with. This is the future of the program. The future looks bright to me.
