3 takeaways from Ohio State football’s stumbling win vs Nebraska
By Riley Thomas
3. Jaxon Smith-Njiba is a certified superstar
Well, here’s the obvious one. How about Jaxon Smith-Njigba?! It was a record-breaking performance with 240 receiving yards on 15 receptions, have a day young man.
Smith-Njigba constantly ate Nebraska alive working the short and intermediate areas of the field complemented by running after the catch. The most memorable play was the 75-yard catch-and-run that made defenders look silly (very Braxton Miller-like if I do say so myself).
On a rough offensive day for Ohio State, thank goodness JSN decided to impose his will. Sadly, his career day won’t be viewed in a very positive light when you think about the overall bad offensive performance from the Scarlet and Gray. His day could have been a lot more fun if OSU managed to break this game open at some point.
As most already know, if this offensive line can become respectable, this offense is capable of almost anything. The weapons are special, JSN is supposed to be the third-best wideout…that is simply unfair.
The schedule will get no easier for the Ohio State football team with all of Purdue, Michigan State, and Michigan awaiting the Buckeyes. The defense may finally be good enough for a special run, the offense has to solve its issues. This will go down as a very disappointing season if a playoff birth cannot be at least achieved, which could be the case if major strides are not taken in a hurry.
Day needs to set forth a theme of urgency and execution. In the end, Ohio State needs to conquer itself and then the success will come with talent littered all over the field.
