Ohio State Football keeping OL strong with recruiting
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football program has been doing a great job of recruiting since Ryan Day took over as Head Coach. Day has not only recruited well on the offensive side of the ball but on defense too. Day continued with that great recruiting today.
Ohio State landed a four-star offensive lineman from Dayton. That prospect is Joshua Padilla out of Wayne high school. He is a prospect in the class of 2023. Padilla becomes the second commit for the class of 2023. Ty Lockwood recently committed as well.
Padilla is the ninth-best interior offensive lineman in the country and the fourth-best interior lineman in the state of Ohio. He is a little lean at 6’4 and 265 pounds. He will probably need to gain a little weight before he can get into the lineup and do any damage.
As far as his talent goes, he seems strong for his size. He does a good job of driving defenders back in the run game and is someone that you can run behind. He can pass-block pretty well too, but it’s not his strong suit. His movement laterally isn’t as good for that.
In the passing game, he stands up a little bit too much sometimes. He needs to work on his pad level in that regard. That is something that can be coached up though. With college-level coaching and better strength and conditioning, he should be able to fix that.
Ohio State is making it a priority to lock down good prospects from the state of Ohio. Signing prospects like Padilla is a good way to keep achieving that goal. He is someone that can keep growing into a better prospect as time goes on too.
Greg Studrawa did a good job with this signing. I’d like to see some more five-stars get signed too!
