The Ohio State basketball team played in a scrimmage last night to open up the 2021-22 season. They faced off against the University of Indianapolis. It was never a close game and the Buckeyes won by 30+ points and they looked good doing it.

Zed Key looks like he has taken a step forward in his development. He was in the starting lineup next to E.J. Liddell down low. He looks good and can still get down in the post whenever he wants. Key will likely continue to start with Kyle Young out for awhile.

Liddell has been working on his outside shooting, and it shows. He made a couple of midrange jumpers, as well as a three. He needs to expand his range if he wants to be looked at as a legitimate NBA prospect next season. Hopefully, he’s able to.

One thing I did find interesting is that Meechie Johnson was in the starting lineup at one of the guard spots. That means that new transfer Cedric Russell will be coming off the bench. That is of course assuming that this scrimmage means anything for the regular season.

Ultimately, I’m not sure how much I learned about this team last night. Indianapolis is a division lower than the Ohio State basketball team and didn’t really put up much of a fight. We’ll learn a lot more about this team once the regular season does start.

The regular season starts a week from today on November 9th. It should be a very fun season to watch!
