3 takeaways from Ohio State football’s 33-24 win vs PSU

3. TreVeyon Henderson is really that special of a back
By many accounts, TreVeyon Henderson had an off-night when he was expected to explode against a defense that could not stop Illinois’ run.
Even with some mistakes from Henderson, he still had explosive runs leading to 152 rushing yards at 5.4 yards per carry. So on his off-night, Henderson still got loose and dominated the fourth quarter. He really is that special.
The poor run blocking was certainly part of Henderson’s rough start. Henderson having an off-night three quarters in was a fair judgment as well.
It felt like Henderson was not breaking as many tackles as usual at first. Also, there were times where he missed a rushing lane or made the wrong decision.
In the end, Penn State still couldn’t contain Henderson a whole game. It is almost a guarantee already if you give Henderson any kind of space he will break for a huge gain at least once.
Henderson is truly that special as a true freshman and is just getting started as we all know. This is why the offensive line needs to start performing in these big games. Even if there are future mistakes in the passing game, if Henderson gets even decent blocking he can take over.
His huge run that’s shown above was one of the first times he had a good lane to run through, the rest is history. By Henderson’s standards, he did not have his best night but still had a stat line with over 150 yards and a touchdown.
Sometimes you hear having mistakes is better than playing perfectly in football. This allows coaches to have plenty to address even in wins and keeps players level-headed and humble. That is the case right now for Ohio State football.
The 33-24 win was disappointing because OSU clearly can play much better. The Bucks’ win did not turn out how it should have, but this could be one of those gut-check types of games that championship-level teams need. Teams need to know how to respond to adversity.
Everything is still on the table for Ohio State so take a deep breath. The Buckeyes grabbed an important win and has time to improve.
