The Ohio State basketball season starts next week when the Buckeyes will take on Indianapolis in a scrimmage. We know this will be a good opportunity for Chris Holtmann to figure out what his potential rotation could be. We do know one player won’t be playing in that scrimmage.

According to Holtmann, Kyle Young is out. The senior seems to be suffering from an illness. Holtmann said it was something called vestibular dysfunction, which I have never heard of before. Based on the description of the disease, it doesn’t sound great.

Apparently, this is something that messes with your balance and coordination. You kind of need both to play the game of basketball, especially at a high level. This is caused by some sort of trauma to the head, although Holtmann doesn’t think it was caused by anything playing basketball.

Young has had to fight through so much during his college basketball career. He has had numerous injuries, an emergency appendectomy, and so much stuff to fight through. It’s a shame that the start of this season is in doubt because of something like this.

Holtmann did say that he didn’t think this was something that was going to keep Young out long-term, which is good. The Ohio State basketball team needs Young if they want to be a great team in a loaded Big Ten. This conference is always one of the toughest in the country.

The Shoe will be rocking vs. Penn State. dark. Next

We’ll keep you posted if we hear anything more on Young’s status and when he could potentially return to action.
