Ohio State Football: Big Ten East is turning into carnage
By Ryan Stano
This is where the Ohio State football team has their toughest stretch of games. They play Penn State this week and still have to play Michigan State and Michigan the last two weeks of the season. All of these teams are ranked too. It’s a rough go in terms of the schedule.
The Buckeyes aren’t the only one with a tough schedule down the stretch in the Big Ten East. In fact, all of these best teams play each other late in the year. Penn State plays Ohio State this weekend and Michigan and Michigan State play each other as well.
That means that potentially, there could be only one undefeated team left in the conference after this weekend. Three of those four teams are currently undefeated. All of these teams still have to play each other and it could take the Big Ten out of a chance to put multiple teams in the CFP.
The absolute worst-case scenario is that all of this carnage takes the Big Ten out of the College Football Playoff completely with all of these teams cannibalizing each other. That would be a complete disaster and something that would shake up all of college football.
While I don’t see that happening, it still is a possibility with how the schedules are backlogged like this. It makes for an exciting finish to the regular season. It also makes for some nervous weekends for fans of Ohio State, Michigan, and Michigan State.
In the case of TTUN and Michigan State, the loser of this weekend’s game isn’t completely out of the CFP picture. They just need the winner to lose two games to finish the season and then win out themselves. A hard ask, but certainly not impossible.
Of course, the best team in the Big Ten has been the Ohio State football team. The Buckeyes don’t look like they are slowing down their rampage anytime soon. Taking down them is going to be incredibly difficult for any of these teams.
All I know is that the end of the regular season is going to be fun!
