Losing to Oregon was just what Ohio State Football needed

While losing to Oregon hurt, it may be just what the Ohio State football team needed to make another push to the College Football Playoffs.

The Ohio State football team ended week two in an unfamiliar spot. Losing a game in the regular season was a first for Ryan Day, but the biggest issue was that the Buckeyes looked bad.

A defense that could not stop the same play run over and over was not the Silver Bullets Columbus was used to. The offense was able to move the ball but not get in the endzone when it mattered most. Many people started calling for C.J. Stroud to be benched and for Kerry Coombs to lose his job.

But look at Ohio State now. The defense, being called by Matt Barnes, is quietly turning into an average unit. The offense is the best in college football and C.J. Stroud looks like a legitimate Heisman Trophy candidate. Ohio State has become a national title contender and they owe it all to the Oregon Ducks.

Losing to Oregon was the perfect event for Ohio State. Losing a non-conference game means that the Buckeyes are not at any disadvantage in the Big Ten. Winning the east and making it to Indianapolis, did not take a hit with this loss. The loss will not prevent the Buckeyes from making the playoffs or achieving their goals.

What the loss did do was allow the Buckeyes to hit reset and fix their issues. Oftentimes, when a team is winning, they do not take the risk to change the issues within the team. With nothing to lose and knowing they had to change, Ryan Day turned the Buckeyes around.

Ohio State is a completely different team from the beginning of the season. With the second half of the season coming up, the Buckeyes owe a big thank you to Oregon for helping shape who the team is today.
