Scotty Middleton, the 40th ranked prospect in the 2023 class per 247 Sports, is a highly athletic and versatile wing that recently received a scholarship offer from the Ohio State basketball team, among several other major programs. The 6’7 forward has been on the rise lately, earning offers from Oklahoma State, Kansas State, Texas A&M, UConn, and 10 others.

Middleton talked to me about his ongoing recruiting: “My mindset during the recruiting process is really to just stay humble and work. I know any day all of this can be taken from me so I just keep my head straight and grind. I want to learn about all the colleges that are recruiting me and learn how I fit in.”

The Ohio State basketball team offered the junior on September 5, 2021. He later explained his thoughts on the Buckeyes: “I’ve been watching a few of their games and seeing how I can fit into the program. Looking to take an official (visit) sometime in October to learn more about their program and build my relationship with the coaching staff.”

The 4-star prospect will be playing for Sunrise Christian Academy this season after previously attending Columbus High School and The Patrick School. Sunrise Christian Academy, located in Bel Aire, Kansas, had four top-rated seniors a year ago, including Kennedy Chandler, Kendall Brown, and incoming Michigan State guard Jaden Akins. Buddy Hield also attended Sunrise.

Middleton discussed his athletic and defensive ability: “I am a really long and athletic defender that has sneaky bounce. I have a 7’0 wingspan and I have the ability to rise over defenders and dunk on them or finish strong at the rim. I can guard and play multiple positions. I think defense is really important in the game but I can get better.”

The Miami product is an extremely active defender and a determined driver, in addition to having great length and size at small forward. He has the potential to be a three-level scorer at the next level if his perimeter shot continues to show improvement. Ohio State is looking to add their first 2023 commit and Middleton would be a significant addition.
