Ohio State Football: Ryan Day is set to do his best coaching
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team is in its third year being led by Ryan Day. The first two years were pretty smooth considering Day only lost two games and both were in the College Football Playoff. This year has gone a little bit differently though.
Day lost his first regular-season game ever in the second week of the season, falling to Oregon at home. That was his first real test as a head coach. He had to make changes to his defense immediately, no matter how hard those changes were to make.
He made those changes, and now the team is looking much better on that side of the ball. C.J. Stroud’s injury was another thing that Day had to deal with. After giving him the week off against Akron, Stroud looks phenomenal. He is clearly the best quarterback on this roster right now.
With all of that happening, Day has the chance to do some of his best coaching coming up. He plays ranked foes in Penn State, Michigan State, and Michigan at the end of the season. All are currently ranked in the top 10 of the polls and all are in the Buckeyes’ division.
We are going to find out just how good a job coaching Day can do. Those are not easy opponents. This Ohio State team still has some flaws. It will be interesting to see how well Day can cover up those flaws once those tough teams come up on the schedule.
If Day is able to win out and make the CFP, this will be by far the best coaching job he’s ever done. He would be a candidate for Big Ten Coach of the Year if he’s able to pull off that feat. I truly can’t wait to see if he’s able to win all of those games because it would be one of the more impressive things a coach of this Ohio State football program has been able to do in some time.
