Ohio State Football: Five mid-season awards
By Ryan Stano
Ohio State football Team MVP
This award was actually a lot harder to give out than I thought it would be. There are a lot of players that have helped the Buckeyes get back to being an elite team. In the end, I decided to go with someone who has already won an award.
It has to be TreVeyon Henderson. The guy has been the most consistent performer on the offensive side of the ball and has arguably been the most valuable. When he is in the game, defenses have to stack the box with seven or eight guys and that opens up the passing game.
Henderson is rapidly approaching the best freshman running back I have ever seen at Ohio State. Maurice Clarett right now holds that title for me. He was an absolute beast. But if Henderson puts up big numbers against teams like Penn State, Michigan State, and Michigan, he takes the crown.
What makes Henderson’s performance even better is the fact that he didn’t play football at all last season after his senior year was canceled due to COVID. He has had to hit the ground running and has done a phenomenal job at doing just that.
Henderson being a threat both on the ground and in the air is one of the big reasons no one wants to face the Ohio State football team right now. They are a team to be reckoned with.
