3. OSU’s offensive line still looks dominant

There was slight concern about the Buckeyes’ offensive line after they struggled to get a push in the run game in OSU’s loss against Oregon. The offensive lines’ play versus Oregon seems like an anomaly right now.

Both tackles, Nicholas Petit-Frere and Dawand Jones, have been elite protecting the QB in the passing game. Luke Wypler has also performed well at center and looks to be the starter at center, even with Harry Miller’s return. Both guards have been good with the right guard Paris Johnson Jr. consistently dominating and  Thayer Munford transitioning well to left guard. All of the starters had another good game against Rutgers.

Even the depth on the offensive line is really good this season. Several times Matthew Jones has started or come into the game at guard for injured Buckeyes, and every time Jones has looked good. Jones saw time with both the starters and second-strings this week, with both units Jones looked good.

Against Rutgers, the second string unit still dominated the line of scrimmage, further proving the line’s good depth. The Buckeye offensive line is starting to establish itself as one of the nation’s elite lines.

The offensive line paved the way in the run game with some giant holes for running backs to run through versus Rutgers. OSU ran for 208 yards and averaged over five yards per carry. The pocket was kept clean against the Scarlet Knights as well, giving the quarterback ample time to find an open receiver in the passing game.

TreVeyon Henderson showed his explosive burst on his 44-yard touchdown run, but man, the offensive line parted the defense like the Red Sea.

Ohio State’s offense is going to look to establish the run in every game with a good line and talented backs. The offensive line getting some consistency is huge going into Big Ten play. Games can get messy in the Big Ten due to some bad weather or stingy defenses, a dominant offensive line is a game-changer for the Buckeyes.

There was a lot to like in the Ohio State football team’s relentless performance against the conference foe Rutgers. The play of Stroud, young players, and the offensive line particularly stood out and allowed the Bucks to impose their will.
