After the Ohio State football team lost to Oregon, it seemed like the Ohio State football team’s odds to make the College Football Playoff were slim. They looked like they were overmatched by a team that was just average. We even saw that they are average after they lost to Stanford this past weekend.

Now after two good weeks, the Buckeyes suddenly look like a team that can get on a roll and make some noise. The path for them to make the CFP has now become much clearer. They still need some help, but that help has become more defined and has lessened over the weeks.

First off, Ohio State obviously has to go undefeated the rest of the way. That would include great wins over Penn State, Michigan State, and Michigan, all of whom are undefeated at the moment. Ideally, they would also play Iowa in the Big Ten Championship Game.

Beating all of those teams would move them up to the 5th spot in the polls at the very least. Alabama is not likely to lose, so they are in. The ACC doesn’t look like they’re going to get anyone in either. Oklahoma looks vulnerable, so having them lose would be a big help too.

The last two teams then are Georgia and Cincinnati, both of whom pose an issue. Cinci just beat Notre Dame by a decent amount on the road. They don’t play any more Power 5 teams. In fact, they only play one more ranked team on their schedule. They are certainly a threat to make the CFP.

Georgia is too unless they lose twice. They have to lose in the regular season and then again to Bama in the SEC Championship. Otherwise, there will be two SEC schools in the CFP this year. At least one of Georgia or Cinci needs a loss to really put the Buckeyes in a better position.

It’s still early in the season and Ohio State has only put two really good games together, but they look like they are on the right track. They might have a chance to save the season yet.
