Ohio State Football: 3 questions OSU must answer against Rutgers
By Alex Austin
Where has Chris Olave gone?
Lost in playing overmatched opponents the last two weeks is the fact that Chris Olave has just two catches for 12 yards and a touchdown in those games. This is terrible production for the best wide receiver in the league.
It is not like Ohio State has not been able to throw the ball, both Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Garrett Wilson have had success in catches, yards, and touchdowns, but suddenly Olave has gone missing. Rather than being an issue with the entire passing offense, it seems isolated to just leaving Olave out.
I don’t know if this is defenses putting extra coverage on him, the quarterbacks assuming he will be guarding and looking elsewhere, or the scheme not highlighting him enough but things need to change.
Olave has the kind of talent that should allow him to gain close to 100 yards every week. Before he gets disgruntled or teams learn how to gameplan around him, the Buckeyes need to make sure to get him involved in this game. Even if it is more shovel passes or screens, Olave needs to touch the ball closer to eight times against Rutgers, and I believe the game plan will allow that to happen.
Hopefully these things occur, and the Ohio State football team can take care of Rutgers without too much trouble.
