Five Bold predictions for the Ohio State Football team vs. Akron
By Alex Austin
The Ohio State Buckeyes double their season sack total by getting to the quarterback four different times.
Ohio State is going to have to figure out how to get pressure on the quarterback this season. It has been clear that it is not going to happen with a standard four-man rush, so the Buckeyes have been trying different things. I think this week some of those things come together and it results in more sacks.
There are a few variables that go into this. First, Akron is a much better passing team than they are running team. With my expectation that the offense starts clicking and cannot be stopped, Akron will try to pass the ball more than usual to try and stay in the game.
Akron is also at a disadvantage at not knowing what Ohio State is going to try. The Buckeyes are going to continue breaking out all kinds of different looks and packages, and some will be able to confuse the offense and end up with free rushers.
Lastly, Ohio State has its biggest physical mismatch this week. They are bigger, faster, and stronger than the Zips. That alone will allow the Buckeyes to assert their will. All three of these things working together is going to result in a big day for Ohio State.
After this night game, it might actually feel like the Ohio State football team is back.
